CESNET connected Prague and Memphis using low-latency MVTP technology

Clock ikon 8. September 2023

At the international Network Performing Arts Production Workshop, focused on the use of ICT in education and collaboration in live culture, we demonstrated our MVTP technology for remote collaboration. We connected the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music in Memphis.

We connected musicians across the ocean in real time using our unique MVTP technology, based on programmable hardware. Pianist Jan Pudlak and singer Lee Andrew Davidson played jazz compositions such as The Nearness of You and Body and Soul in Prague, along with trumpeter David Spencer in Memphis.

Jan Pudlák is a graduate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and focuses on jazz and contemporary music. Lee Andrew Davison is a jazz and musical theatre singer and conductor. A native of Oklahoma, he has been based in Prague since 1991, where he regularly performs a program of spirituals and gospel music at concerts and festivals. David Spencer is a professor at the University of Memphis, has performed as principal trumpet in numerous symphony orchestras and has been involved in Grammy award-winning projects throughout his career.

CESNET’s MVTP technology for low-latency network transmissions was awarded the Europa Nostra Award in 2020 and the Czech Head Award in 2022.
