RTBH filter

The Remotely Triggered Black Hole (RTBH) filter enables the connected entities to administrate the operation of their end network in case an abnormal traffic occurs, for instance when (D)DoS flood attacks occur.

Using the BGP protocol, it is possible to determine which traffic coming into the end network is not legitimate and should be thrown away by the backbone network in order not to burden the participants’ access line. This service is a part of the set of tools for entity’s security self-management.

At the same time, the responsible staff member of the participant (the technical contact) may request the ServiceDesk to block the illegitimate traffic on a certain IP address or service.

Key benefits

  • Possibility to filter unwanted traffic on the edge of participant’s network, i.e. at the level of the e-infrastructure’s backbone network;
  • Reduction of unwanted saturation of own access line;
  • Self-regulation by the participant by means of the BGP protocol.

Target audience

The service is available to all entities connected to the CESNET e-infrastructure using the BGP route protocol.

Fee

The service is available free of any additional charge to the entities connected to the CESNET e-infrastructure.

Launch

The interested entity should send a request to the User care department.
