CESNET presenting its services as well as a new logo
Prague, 11 December 2017. CESNET is presenting a comprehensive overview of its services and research activities at today’s CESNET e-Infrastructure Conference held at the Czech Technical University’s Masaryk Dormitory in Prague-Dejvice. During the event, the Association will also reveal its new visual identity, including a new logo.
Introductory presentations will be given by Jan Gruntorád, CESNET director, and Erik Huizer, CEO of GÉANT, an organization operating a pan-European research and education network. The full-day session of paper presentations will include the Association’s experts as well eminent representatives of the user community, who will present specific examples of collaboration to the guests. CESNET will also report news from its own research and development using technology demonstrations.
Detailed information about the conference programme
CESNET will show the public its new logo and the visual identity derived from it for the first time during the morning half of the conference. The graphic design of the new logo is based on binary code, with conversion utilizing the principle of a Cartesian plane coordinate system with x- and y-axes. If both axes have the same unit of length, we get a square grid in which we can move – a one will always be one row higher than a zero.
The new logo consists of the Association’s name and seven blue squares which are a graphical representation of the letter ‘c’ in binary-coded ASCII. New logos have been created in the same manner for each of the Association’s services and activities. The form of their graphic marks has also been determined by binary code, or more precisely the representation of the initial letter of the service or activity in the code.
Together with the new logo, CESNET has started to use a new typeface today. The typeface is Avenir, which is French for ‘future’.
“Undoubtedly, CESNET is an organization that helps form the future. We provide our services to academic, scientific and research communities as well as other experts. This allows them to get ahead in their fields. That’s why we have chosen Avenir, or Future, as our new typeface. We think it’s highly symbolic,” says Gabriela Krčmařová, Head of Communication at CESNET.
On the occasion of the public presentation of its new visual identity, CESNET has made a video describing the process of logo creation and putting it into a broader context. You can watch the video

The CESNET Association was founded by Czech universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences in 1996. It is engaged in research and development in the field of information and communication technologies and builds and develops the CESNET national e-infrastructure for research and education. Thanks to its research activities and accomplishments, it represents the Czech Republic in important international projects, particularly in building the pan-European GÉANT data network or grid projects (EGI.eu), and actively participates in their implementation. CESNET places great emphasis on the security of network operations, services and user protection.
