Photonic systems and network design

We design and test photonic (full optical) transmission systems and networks and configure them remotely or perform automatic adaptation and traffic parameters monitoring. The results are leveraged in international research projects and national CESNET Large Infrastructure project for constructing technically and economically advanced network paths. Parties interested in direct or indirect connection to CESNET infrastructure can use our services for connecting own network to CESNET infrastructure point-of-presence, i.e. for installation of optical access (including WDM connection). Our services are used by other network and component designers and connectivity providers. CESNET supports such result exploitation and continuously develops relationships with industry worldwide.

The paid services are the following:

  • Determining availability of optical fibers in the Czech Republic and abroad;
  • Design of lighting two-fiber optical path;
  • Design of lighting one-fiber optical path;
  • Assisted lighting of optical path;
  • Monitoring active optical components;
  • Collaboration in development of active optical components;
  • Providing licenses, know-how, analyses and consultations.

More complex requirements can be solved as an ad hoc research or within mutually advantageous research collaboration. We concentrate on the following:

  • Research of principles and technology trends in optical network implementation and testing;
  • Research, development and testing of photonic equipment (Optical laboratory) and result exploitation (Liaison with Industry);
  • Research of fully optical functions deployment in experimental environment and in communication infrastructure;
  • Research, design and testing of CEF networks, photonic services, lambda services, GOLE and GLIF, Future Internet, and other similar initiatives;
  • Technically and economically optimal solution of fiber infrastructure, lighted fiber lease, CBF and international connectivity.

In relation to the activities listed above we are ready to enhance our participation in design of testing new network applications (e.g. external process real-time control) and enable interested parties’ experiments and demonstrations. This concerns also customer-driven international projects where GLIF services, GÉANT photonic services, CBF etc. are deployed.
