International Consortium XIFI to meet in Prague
Prague, 12 Feb 2015. From 16 to 18 February, the CESNET Association of Czech public universities and the Academy of Sciences will host a consortium of the project Future Internet – Public Private Partnership, eXperimental Infrastructures for Future Internet (FI-PPP XIFI) at Prague’s Diplomat Hotel. This will be the last meeting during the standard period of project resolution, during which the experimental pan-European infrastructure was created. The Prague meeting will focus mainly on the conclusions and recommendations of the third review by the European Commission.
The XIFI consortium consists of 36 institutions from the public and private sectors from a total of thirteen countries. CESNET is the only involved entity from the Czech Republic.
The XIFI pan-European structure, which is based on the IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) model, is under the heading of FIWARE Lab the main experimental platform for testing outputs known as the Future Internet.
The interconnection of the constituent nodes, evenly geographically distributed across Europe, takes place via the GEANT research and education network, using its advanced services. CESNET built the Czech node in its premises. Thanks to the quality of the provided services, it has received the FIWARE Silver Label from the consortium.
More details regarding the XIFI project can be found at www.fi-xifi.eu.
The CESNET Association was founded by Czech universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in 1996. It is engaged in research and development in information and communication technologies and builds and develops the CESNET national e-infrastructure for research and education. With its research activities and accomplishments, CESNET represents the Czech Republic in international projects, most notably the pan-European GÉANT network building project and grid projects (EGI.eu), and participates actively in their implementation.
