CESNET presented modern transmission services

Prague, 28 May 2014. Almost 90 guests participated in today’s CESNET Community Forum seminar, organised in the Balling Hall of the National Technical Library in Prague by the CESNET association, whose members are public universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The seminar dealt with new types of transmission services and their applications. Besides representatives of CESNET, there were speeches by experts from the Academy of Sciences, Vysočina Region, and the companies SQS Vláknová optika, PROFiber Networking CZ and OPTOKON.

The main topics were:

  • modern transmission systems and expert measurement services
  • efficient use of fibre infrastructure for regions, cities and companies
  • photonic networks as a medium for distributing stable signals from optical frequency and time normals
  • trends, future and present of FTTH (fiber to the home)
  • experience with application of the CzechLight device

CESNET is among the world’s leading institutions in research and application of transmission services for highly accurate and powerful applications (such as real-time control, photonic services, time and frequency transmission, etc.).

The association strives to provide scientific teams with such services that will help them gain headway in their disciplines. We therefore collaborate on development of our services, which we offer the entire scientific and academic community, directly with their users. This is true on not only the Czech scale but on the European scale too, because CESNET and its users are part of the pan-European GÉANT research community.

The CESNET Association was founded by Czech universities and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in 1996. It is engaged in research and development in information and communication technologies and builds and develops the CESNET national e-infrastructure for research and education. With its research activities and accomplishments, CESNET represents the Czech Republic in international projects, most notably the pan-European GÉANT network building project and grid projects (EGI.eu), and participates actively in their implementation.
